Simon de Montfort

Simon de Montfort, 6th Earl of Leicester, 1st Earl of Chester (23 May 1208? – 4 August 1265), led the barons' rebellion against King Henry III of England during the Second Barons' War of 1263–4. After a rule of just over a year, de Montfort was killed by forces loyal to the king in the Battle of Evesham.

The Worcester 13 version of William of Sherwood's Introductiones in logicam alters the example 'haec est vera pro Caesare' to 'haec est vera pro Symone de Monte Forti' - possibly a thirteenth century version of the classroom trick of updating an example to keep the students awake. This allows us to date the manuscript to some time after 1265 when Simon was killed, although it was probably written much later.
