Reference

In modern philosophical logic, reference is supposed to be a property of a singular term whereby the term tells us which individual is the subject of the sentence in which the term occurs. Examples of referring terms are: proper names, pronouns, demonstrative pronouns, definite descriptions. There is no universally agreed account of how reference operates, or what it actually is.
